Duval Street Key West

Duval Street is a major tourist attraction located in Key West, Florida. This street is famous for a couple of reasons. First of all, it is a street that connects the city of Key West with both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. That is to say that at the northernmost part of Duval Street, it connects to the Gulf of Mexico. If people travel down the street all the way to the southernmost point, they'll reach the Atlantic Ocean. The interesting thing about Key West is that it's a peninsula of land that is situated between these two major bodies of water.

The street was named for a man named William Pope Duval. He was the first territorial governor of Florida, before Florida became part of the United States. As time went on, this street became populated with a variety of pubs, restaurants, and a hotel. It is a major tourist attraction, and it is a registered historical site. This street draws many tourists in, and many of its famous residents have spent time in the pubs and the bars of the street. Historical, Key West residents include Ernest Hemingway, and Tennessee Williams. Both of these famous American writers have called Key West home, and they have spent a lot of time socializing on this street.

Tourists can either visit the street by land or by boat. Cruise ships dock port in the Gulf of Mexico, and tourists come in from off the boats to shop in the various tourist shops, and to partake in eating in the restaurants. The locals to go pub hopping in what is known as the Duval Crawl. This means that they go in and out from one bar to another all-night long. It's somewhat of a sport to see how many venues a person can visit during an outing. For the hard-core partiers, there is a carnival on the street that starts when the sun goes down, and it lasts until dawn, and sometimes even past dawn. This is a carnival for the hard-core partiers, since Key West lends itself to a tremendous amount of partying with its tropical atmosphere.

Key West beyond Duval Street lends itself to a lot for tourists to do. Families like to visit here, as do couples. The great thing about Key West is that it offers tourists a tropical atmosphere in the confines of the U.S. That is to say that tourists don't need to have a passport in order to take advantage of its southern, and Caribbean feel. People partake in activities such as fishing, water sports, and golfing. On the other hand, they can eat some of the best food in the region, and sometimes in the world. Because Key West is located by the Caribbean, and also in the Deep South of the U.S., tourists can take advantage of a variety of cuisines and cultures. Certainly, Duval Street will offer them the variety that they are looking for when they come to Key West.
